Iryna Aleksiychuk — Pianist and Organist

Iryna Aleksiychuk is a Ukrainian composer, pianist, and organist, Associate Professor of Composition at the National Higher Academy of Music of Ukraine. She was educated at the above mentioned educational institution, where she earned Master’s degrees in Piano and Composition (both cum laude), completed organ studies, and obtained a PhD in Composition.Among her distinctions are the prestigious National Mykola Lysenko Prize for achievements in the field of composition and the title of Merited Artist of Ukraine, the highest honor awarded to a musician in her country.

She has also received the Kyiv Art Prize named after Artemii Vedel and the title of “Composer of the Year” for her cantata Lullabies of Reeds for soloists, mixed choir, and symphony orchestra. In addition, she was awarded the Revutsky Prize for her contribution to the performance of contemporary music. As a performer, she has won prizes at national and international competitions, including the ARD International Music Competition in Munich and the Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition in Miami.

Iryna has given numerous concerts in prestigious venues across Germany, Spain, Italy, Serbia, Slovakia, Moldova, Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine, and the United States, performing as a solo pianist, chamber musician, and piano duo performer. As a piano duo with the distinguished Ukrainian pianist Yurii Kot, she has appeared with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Bilbao Municipal Band, the New World Symphony (Miami), the MERCK Chamber Orchestra Darmstadt, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, among others.In addition, Iryna is frequently invited to give piano masterclasses and to serve as a jury member at international competitions for piano, piano duo, and composition in Spain, Serbia, Poland, the United States, and Ukraine.

Internationally recognized as a composer, Iryna Aleksiychuk creates works in a wide range of genres and for diverse ensembles. Her catalogue includes symphonic, choral, and chamber works, as well as vocal and instrumental solo compositions, all of which have been performed with great enthusiasm and warmly received by musicians and audiences worldwide.Her music has been performed at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and the Berlin Philharmonie under the direction of the renowned conductor Kent Nagano. She recently received a commission to compose an orchestral work that was premiered in Prague and subsequently performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, NOSPR and the Philadelphia Orchestra under the direction of Marin Alsop.

Among the international orchestras that have performed her music are the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Opéra National de Lorraine, the Jakarta Symphony Orchestra, the National Presidential Orchestra of Ukraine, the National Academic Symphonic Band of Ukraine, and the State Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, among others.

Many choirs have commissioned works from Iryna and have repeatedly received awards and first prizes performing her music. In 2017, the Lysenko Children’s Choir, conducted by Yulia Puchko-Kolesnyk, won first place worldwide in the “Sacred Music” category with a program consisting entirely of her compositions. In 2014, Iryna received special recognition as a contemporary choral music composer from the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing during its 46th edition in Tolosa, Spain.

Among the international choirs that have performed her music are the National Youth Choir of Great Britain; the Los Angeles Master Chorale; the National Honor Choir of Children’s Voices of the American Choral Directors Association; the Grammy-winning vocal ensemble Conspirare; the Harvestehude Chamber Children’s Choir; the Children’s Choir of the Berlin Sing-Akademie and the boys of the Berlin State and Cathedral Choir; the Dresden Singakademie; the American ensemble Art Renaissance Singers, as well as many other choral ensembles across Europe and the Americas.
